This is a classic modern retelling of `Cinderella', the fairy tale about the young girl forced into a life of servitude, dreaming about the day she'll get to marry the love of her life. Everyone knows the story of Cinderella, but this modernized version is different, and so much better than the original. It is a perfect story for children, with fun characters, and a change in setting from the original 1800s in Europe, to the 20th century.
Young Marilla used to live in Bethany House - where children were mistreated, and the food was terrible. She finally managed to break away from there, and was able to find employment as a domestic servant.
Marilla works for the Borden family, tending to the twins, and mischievous five-year-old Jack. It is a good job. The family is nice, and they have a really nice house. It is a fine job, but she is struggling under the workload.
One night, after spending the evening working in the kitchen, washing dishes, and cleaning everything up, Marilla sits quietly at the rocking chair by the fire, glad to have a few minutes to herself. It is a place of solace, where she can warm her feet on the hearth, and contemplate. Marilla gets a visit from the fairy godmother. It takes her completely by surprise. The surprise visit changes everything. Life starts to look up for Marilla.
