Gentle, creative Percy has always been content with a simple life in his poor medieval village. Orphaned at a young age, he has always managed to get by and is more interested in sketching nature than seeking his fortune. All that changes as he begins to mature and fall in love with his best friend, Leandra.
Desperate not to lose Leandra to her parents' shallow materialism, Percy considers the old village legend of a terrible monster who lives in a castle, deep in the woods. They say anyone who can make the monster cry will inherit the castle and all its riches. Over the years, many have taken the quest, but none have ever returned.
Percy has never harmed another, and has no desire to do so, but he feels he has run out of options.
A Monster's Tears is a short story of approximately 3,700 words.
