The February 20, 1975 murder of former Gallo gang hoodlum Anthony Getch ended an extended criminal career. Getch had a long association with gangland activities, extending from the early 1960s. During 1961-1962 there was a gang war between forces of the more established Profaci syndicate and associates of the upstart Gallo gang. The Gallos, Joey, Larry and Albert, had once provided muscle for the Profaci family, which was led by Brooklyn oil importer Joseph Profaci. In the early 1960s friction was touched off when the Gallos entered the jukebox and numbers rackets. Traditionally, both rackets were dominated by the Profaci syndicate.
