A sudden collapse characterised by loss of consciousness, unresponsiveness, convulsions, loss of muscle tone and possibly a bluish discoloration of the skin. Patients with accidental hypothermia may survive even long periods of apparent lifelessness provided that cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures are not abandoned.
