An effective administrator is not necessarily a leader in a way that people often understand. For example, Harry Truman did not have any charismatic leadership, but he was one of the most effective presidents in American history. Similarly, some of the best CEOs of businesses and nonprofits I've worked with for 65 years as a consultant are not leaders as the pattern we often define. They are outside those frameworks in terms of their personality, attitudes, values, strengths and weaknesses. They can be extrovert or introvert, easygoing or controlling people, generous people or liars.
