ELIZABETH DEVON becomes Florence Nightingale's maid, a life little better than slavery, as a starving DANIEL COLLINE flees Ireland's potato famine. They meet and fall in love at London's 1851 Great Exhibition, where she sees a camera and vows to become a photographer -- it will set her free. Daniel joins the Light Brigade in the Crimea and Elizabeth accompanies Florence there to nurse wounded soldiers and take photographs.
