Inspiring Animal Tales Bundle, 2 in 1 Bundle: The Call of the Wild and Black Beauty
We can often learn a lot from animals. Their tales are often inspiring and we can learn a lesson or two. The Call of the Wild is a novel written by Jack London, and is often considered to be his masterpiece and is the most widely read of all his publications. This novel was often mistakenly classified as a childrens book. The main protagonist was a St. Bernard/Collie mix dog named Buck who was living a happy life in California until he was abducted and sold to pay a gambling debt. He was taken to the Klondike to become a sled dog during the Alaska gold rush. There, he had to adapt to brutal and harsh conditions, and had to learn the harsher rules of survival in the North. He was later on saved and acquired by a loving man in the form of John Thornton. Buck later on hears a call emanating from the woods and speaking to the wild heart of his distant ancestors. Buck follows the `call of the wild and joins a pack of wolves. As early as 1923, the story was adapted to film, and it has since seen several more cinematic adaptations.
Black Beauty is a fictional autobiographical memoir told by a horse, who recounts many tales of cruelty and kindness. It is written by Anna Sewell and is the first major animal story in children's literature. After its publication in 1877, Sewell lived just long enough to see her first and only novel become an immediate bestseller, as well as the novel encouraging the better treatment of many cruelly-treated animals. Although initially intended for people who work with horses, it soon became a children's classic. While outwardly teaching animal welfare, it also contains allegorical lessons about how to treat people with kindness, sympathy and respect. Each short chapter recounts an incident in Black Beautys life containing a lesson or moral typically related to the kindness, sympathy, and understanding treatment of horses.
