After the first joys of early retirement, author Karen Casey quickly experienced a minor identity crisis. The process of redefining herself in the absence of a career was made easier after interviewing other older adults with similar experiences.Casey's interviews included men and women from a wide range of ages (58-92) and from various parts of the country. Their stories were as varied as their personalities. However, Casey discovered one common element. They had each discovered an activity that gave their lives real meaning and tied them to the larger human community.
