Memories from Russia Book 5: This picture book, the last of 5 about travels in Russia in a river cruise between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Although the books are labelled "Russia" this country is so immense that in the couple of weeks of the visit, only a miniscule amount could be experienced. This book cover the second part of the guided tours of Saint Petersburg. An historic city, Saint Petersburg cannot be covered in two days! Basically one gets, in that time, to see the highlights and to miss out on lots of things and places. Day two, this book basically, was a bus trip through the city to see the awesome "Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood". It just wasn't feasible to enter the church as the delay would have been too long, and not everyone wants to visit these in a tour group. We then had a bus tour of more parts of the city, seeing the surprising number of canals/rivers through it. We stopped at a pleasant park opposite Saint Isaac's Cathedral: a real 'monster' of a building. It was then across the Neva to the Saint Peter and Paul Fortress. Another example of the mix of military and religious and secular (a very ornate church, a money mint and a garrison all surrounded by a castle wall with ramparts. At the end of the day there was a concert by a troupe of Cossack men and women: extremely high energy and rather exciting performance. There are 85 still images and accompanying pages of minimal description, as well as three short video clips. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. The original photographs (taken but author, and amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit. If you have wondered what such a trip might be like, have a read. If you just would like see an amateur view of the capital of Russia, but also some of the countryside and massive engineering works undertaken in the past, have a read. Ideally, have a read and get as much enjoyment as the author did in being able to collect these 'Memories from Russia'.
