Memories from Russia Book 1: This picture book, one of 5 covering travels in Russia, is a record of guided tours in Moscow. The remaining books in the series cover the river cruise and the trip to Saint Petersburg. Although the books are labelled "Russia" this country is so immense that in the couple of weeks of the visit, only a miniscule amount could be experienced. This first book covers part of the visit to Moscow, or rather, small parts of it as a prelude to the river cruise to Saint Petersburg. Moscow is a very modern historic city, but with really old parts, most which we saw were related to the strong religious heritage of the nation. Perhaps it is true to say that the country and especially Moscow have a sinister reputation to those who live in the 'west' which was not the impression when one actually visits. It is clearly an artistic place with a great deal of emphasis on keeping its history as intact as possible. As there were only a few days before the cruise started, there wasn't a great deal of time to tour. The anchorage for the boats was quite a distance from the city centre and so slightly long bus trips were needed to and from. It is a very interesting place to visit with some really spectacular buildings and places. This book covers Moscow and its environs. This included Red Square and the Kremlin. The river cruise section of the trip starts in Book 2. There are 91 still images and accompanying pages of minimal description. Included are two short video clips. The file size limit of the eBook format is the reason for 5 books. The original photographs (taken but author, and amateur, with amateur equipment) are very large and so need compressing to fit in the file limit. If you have wondered what such a trip might be like, have a read. If you just would like see an amateur view of the capital of Russia, have a read. Ideally, have a read and get as much enjoyment as the author did in being able to collect these 'Memories from Russia'.
