France, A.D. 1307. A thunder rumbled in the half-desert streets of a disreputable village. The narrating voice awakes from a deep sleep. The protagonist brings immediately the reader in his daily routine. The boy earns a living helping a blacksmith, but the chance to change tack is represented by a mysterious noblewoman. The young boy accepted to put himself at service of Milady, moving to a castle on the South-West Coast of Britannia. The main character is going to live an important event, which will be able to change his life forever. He will investigate the monk Esmond's death, building, step by step, the story's tortuous events, full of love and weakness. Light and darkness, faith and hope, doubt and judgment are perfectly combined in a wonderful historical novel, which is halfway between mystical and knightly.
