Motivational Interviewing is now established as an evidence-based practice in the treatment of individuals with substance use disorders. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is grounded in a respectful stance with a focus on building rapport in the initial stages of the counseling relationship. MI focuses on exploring and resolving ambivalence and centers on motivational processes within the individual that facilitate change.
So the purpose of this book is NOT to give you an in-depth examination of MI. There are very good books and trainings that will do that for you. This book is design to give you that 30,000 feet high view of what MI is.
