Relationship Rules

Relationship Rules is a life lessons book, written by a woman who's a lot older now. One thing that happens over time is marveling at who you've become, and how many others had a role in that. An off-hand remark, a chance meeting, friendships, jobs we stumbled into, and opportunities that opened.
I didn't know I'd be a writer or work with other writers. I knew words mattered. A shy young girl and grade-school class outcast, I knew that lie: Sticks and stones will break bonesand words do hurtonly their bruises don't show.
That, too, imprinted a visceral lesson; to speak gently, kindly, with words, because they held such power, and never to make fun of anyone for something they had no control of...How they look, how they dress or walk or talk differently, or anything else.
I was drawn to words that helped me figure out life, how the universe worked, who I was, and what I was here for. They had to make sense, and they had to empower and inspire, to draw me forward, in a good way.
What's here in Relationship Rules are some of those. Off-hand words, advice from Grandma, started my awareness of rules and standards for myself, when it came to dating, finding someone to spend my life with. Arguably the most important decision a woman can make is her choice of a mate, who she'll intimately spend her life with.
Everyone's life takes its own course. Mine had me single into my 30s before I met Michael and married. In between, relationship standards, rules, and respect, expanded into areas of friendships, career associates, and personal and professional developmentincluding youth ministry, human resource management, and life coaching careersall endeavors to empower greatness, our human spirit and divine soul, that each of us came here to uniquely express and experience as ourselves.
In following my path, other travelers were companions, influencers, mirrors, instigators, connectors. And rules were filters and boundaries; relationships became easier; and I became more confident, sure of myself. Being happy in life is a worthwhile endeavor every dayregardless of marital status. It was only then, when I was fully, truly, happy being me and being single, no matter what, that I was ready to be a full partner to anyone. That's when Michael showed up.
I love who I came out to be, and all those experiences and relationships and words that got me here. Those rules I figured out for my personal self-happiness, turned out to be good for a healthy happy married relationship also.
May these words offered here, shine their light, joy, and grace, as you travel your own life's path through relationships, friendships, careers, colleagues, collaborators, influencers, and instigators. It's an adventure in becoming happily, wonderfully, confidently, daringly, deeply, you.
