The changes of decades over forty years become gay romance watersheds in American novelist Ken Curtain's life. As a nineteen-year-old creative writing student and budding novelist, who works as a gay rent-boy to pay for college, Ken is introduced to the best-selling novelist Clifford Langston, at a 1989 Manhattan New Year's Eve party. Ken spends the next ten years under the mentorship and in the bed of Langston only for Langston to move on in his bed partners during a 1999 New Year's Eve cruise on the Rhine, at which time Ken is taken on by Turkish shipping mogul and satyr Altan Hulugu and set up as Hulugu's villa brothel manager on the Isle of Capri for the next ten years. Saved by his HarperCollins editor, Nathan Horowitz, from a raid of Hulugu's illegal activities on New Year's Eve 2009, Ken settles down with Horowitz for a decade in London. New Year's Eve 2019 brings on a new challenge in a change in Ken's life, the most momentous one yet.
