She won her annual spring literary contest of Korean Daily Report newspaper. Also, her poem 'vines' won an award at the "First North American Children's Literature Awards" in 2007 which was organized by North American Korean Children's Writer Association.The author has started to write English poetry since 2005 in Virginia where she attended a language school and wrote about 130 English poems meanwhile. The title "The biggest pencil in the world" was written by the author while she visited Washington, D.C. where she was struck by the beauty of the landscape. She promised herself to write a poem about the "tallest pencil" of the world (Washington monument). The author mentioned that English Poet Laureate William Wordsworth inspired her the most. She hoped that "adults would have the same pure heart as children do" and she will continue to write more English and Korean poems.
