A personal note from the author:
The emotions in THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE ROSE come out of my experience in an orphanage when I was three, after my father died in combat. It's filled with authentic CIA history and tradecraft. One of its main characters is a fictional version of a legendary CIA counter-espionage officer, James Jesus Angleton. The "rose" of the title refers to the symbol of the espionage profession. In the middle ages, covert groups hung a rose above the table and pledged themselves to secrecy sub rosa, under the rosea flower that in classical mythology was the emblem of silence.
