In THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, the fifth Sherlock Holmes book, the detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson are called to investigate a curse which is alleged to be on the house of the Baskervilles, a curse which manifests itself as a fearsome black hound.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a Scottish physician who began writing as a way to pass time between patients at his medical practice. Most famous for creating the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, Doyle wrote dozens of other works of fiction and several influential non-fiction works.
