Anise has made some stupid mistakes in her life, but marrying a man who moved her across the country to his small hometown was the biggest one. He disappeared, leaving her alone to try and run their spice shop while all his old friends and neighbors shun her because they think she killed him. She didn't, but wishes she had. In desperation she hires a drifter to help her out for a couple of days. The man is attractive but clearly has some issues and suffers from PTSD. What could possibly go wrong?
Things go from bad to worse when they discover her shop broken into and a dead man on the floor. Worse, the sheriff is pointing a finger at her since the dead man is a deputy and was her husband's best friend. Only Lincoln, the stranger she just met, seems willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. Together they end up emmeshed in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with a ruthless murderer who will stop at nothing to find something Anise's husband hid in their shop years ago. It's a race to the truth and the treasure that will change Anise and Lincoln's lives forever if they survive.
