This story is set in Australia in the early twentieth century. The main character, Glen Leigh, is a rabbit fence rider. He lives alone in an isolated hut until one day a young woman is caught in a storm and in his absence from his hut finds her way in and collapses. This sets in motion a whole sequence of events, including a sweepstake win in Australia's most famous horse race, the Melbourne Cup. This is a fast-paced and exciting story.
