Un autre monde est-il possible ?

Si la science-fiction est un des genres littéraires les plus « sensibles » aux changements de la société, son lien avec la bande-dessinée italienne, qui a connu un renouveau remarquable pendant les années 1970, a permis à ces narrations d'évoluer et de montrer d'une façon innovante ces changements. Dans ce livre, à travers trois ouvrages « majeurs » qui se constituent en tant qu'entrées en matière pour analyser d'autres bandes dessinées contemporaines et en tant que piliers symboliques d'une époque (Ranxerox, Nathan Never et Orfani), on abordera les évolutions du roman graphique en Italie, les changements au sein de la société italienne, ainsi que les représentations des peurs et des obsessions de la Nation. Ranxerox (1978-1996) mettait en scène, avec sa violence gratuite et sa Rome polluée et dévastée, la dérive terroriste et la désillusion idéologique et politique après 1968 ; et le fait qu'il soit paru l'année de l'enlèvement d'Aldo Moro par les Brigades Rouges, le grand tournant de toute une génération, n'est pas un hasard. Nathan Never (1991), dans son monde où races et classes différentes créent des tensions sociales constantes est un miroir de l'Italie des années 1990, avec la deuxième République, l'arrivée au pouvoir de Berlusconi et les premières vagues d'immigration. La peur de l'autre devient l'obsession de Orfani (2013), où l'humanité se lance dans une guerre trouble contre des extra-terrestres, qui nous rappelle certaines guerres contemporaines.
Les bandes dessinées de science-fiction en Italie ont eu la capacité de comprendre et de représenter les contradictions de la société italienne, en se constituant en même temps en tant que points de repère du genre. Dans ce livre on parcourra certains des ouvrages les plus importants, en tenant compte de nos trois axes : Ranxerox et les années 1970 et 1980, Nathan Never et les années 1990 et 2000, Orfani et l'Italie actuelle.

Italian comics have undergone a remarkable process of renewal during the 1970s. Science-fictiona genre particularly sensitive to social changehas allowed them to evolve and to showcase this evolution in innovative ways. This book examines three major works that serve as entry points to discuss other contemporary comics and are each highly representative of their era: Ranxerox, Nathan Never and Orfani. Through these works we will study the evolution of the Italian graphic novel, societal changes, and symbolic representations of national fears and obsessions. Ranxerox (1978-1996) first appeared the same year as the kidnapping of Aldo Moro by the Red Brigades. This hardly seems due to chance when one sees its gratuitous violence, its representation of Rome as a devastated and polluted wasteland, and of the descent into terrorism and hopelessness of the post-1968 political movements. Nathan Never (1991) features a world mirroring Italy in the 1990swith its Second Republic, Berlusconi's rise to power and the first waves of immigrationthrough the representation of different races and different classes perennially in conflict with each other. Fear of the Other is the main obsession of Orfani (2013), in which mankind is involved in a morally ambiguous war against an alien race that recalls real, contemporary conflicts. These science fiction comics have been able to understand and represent the contradictions inherent in Italian society, all the while becoming important beacons for the genre itself. This book offers a trip through some significant works by following these three main axes: Ranxerox for the 1970s, Nathan Never for the 1990s/2000s, and Orfani for present-day Italy.
