'A Front row seat to the greatest show on earth'

So you've decided to give up that lavish paying job to become a police officer, or you're fresh out of university displaying a shiny new law degree.

You find yourself watching blockbuster movies of cops blasting their way through the bad guys to save mankind. You think you'll be pretty good at doing somersaults across car hoods or able to commandeer citizen vehicles to chase after robbery suspects. Hold on two minutes as I give you a run down about the realities of modern day policing and what to expect before you make that big leap of faith.

I am a retired police officer having served 17 years policing experience in Europe and North America. I have written this book to give new and potential police recruits a reality insight into what the job entails. Throughout this book I provide tips on how to prepare and be ready to successfully pass each stage of the recruitment process. All the information listed is based on my policing experience and from conducting recruitment interviews myself.

Chapter 1 prepares you for applying to become a police officer. I show you how to prepare your inner self to successfully identify whether this is the career choice for you. I explain how important it is to have support from family and what other requirements you need to be aware of.

Chapter 2 is dedicated to the application process to becoming a police officer. I review each stage in the process and give examples of what works and errors to avoid. Having been involved in the recruitment process myself, I also provide tips on how to successfully pass the dreaded interview stage.

Chapter 3 covers recruit training and what happens during those months of endless training. I provide several examples from my training experiences and give you the reader a deep insight into police recruit training rarely seen by the outside world.

Chapter 4 is written to help keep you alive on the street. Although you will undergo weeks of training, you will still be vulnerable out there on the street. I provide real officer safety examples and tips about how to be safe on the street. All of them provided from my own learning experiences.

Each chapter is further broken down into sub categories that cover key relevant points for each topic at hand. On top of that, I also include several real life police stories and personal stories about how the career impacted me. These stories have been taken directly from my police notebook about real incidents dealt with working as a police officer. My goal in doing so is to reiterate the points made in each chapter of the book.

I also touch on the following subjects:

- Information for law enforcement member spouses & family
- Ticket Quota's

Whether you are simply thinking about becoming a police officer or you are currently in recruit classes, this book will provide you valuable information. Many police study books out there assist you in how to pass the various tests but fail to touch on the personal aspect of the job and what must be done to protect your family life.

My aim of writing this guide is to provide you the hard and real facts you need to know about working as a police officer. Important aspects like how your family will cope when you are working Christmas day or when you are stuck working overtime on a family member's birthday. I learned and lived through all these challenges as a police officer which is why I am now able to share them with you. Policing is a very rewarding career choice, but you also need to understand how challenging it can be.

As I like to say - working as a police officer is 'A front row seat to the greatest show on earth.'
