From Brooklynite Imani Dumas' perspective, there's nothing like urban dread with head on the side, especially during another jobless winter season. As Christmas draws closer than the top button on one's skirt or trousers after a Thanksgiving dinner, she can't see the snow drifts for the snowflakes. And worse, she can't escape from herself.

Initially in denial of her dark past, Imani slides along the snowy path of temp employment, her designer knock-off shades bracing against flurries of cautious optimism. Unlike the precipitation on New York City's pavements, however, she's not sure the next job will stick. As unsure of her man's love as she is about taking the next boot step, she stumbles headfirst into an existential crisis and a doppelgänger or three.
