A Room In Harlem

In 1964, Myrtle Johnson is a young military wife and a mother of three with an absentee husband. For the last two years, she's been trying to serve divorce papers on Matt, but she's been unsuccessful as he hides behind Army tours of duty.

And then, she meets a talk, dark, divinely handsome, and single Charles Singletary. She falls in love for the first time in her adult life. Myrtle is torn between her deep love for this man, her mother's intense disapproval of their relationship, and her inability to get a divorce. Once the divorce is final, Myrtle and Charles plan to marry and settle down in Georgia near Charles' parents. Before this happens, Charles mysteriously disappears.

Myrtle carries on with her life, earns an advanced degree, and writes a book that takes her to Harlem, New York, for Harlem's Book Fair. It's here she becomes involved with the ghost of Charles, and she gets a hint of what might have happened to him nearly forty years ago.
