This story is about a sugar skull kitty name Jose (Joel when created), who upon wake, Jose sharpened his claws into a mantel, eating a churro, and stared softly to a bristling arc of sunlight kissing his face. Visions flowed into magically surreal thoughts! Who am i? Am i just another sugar skull painting? I live when you imagine me and the rest of the time, maybe un poquito. After words and letters lilted off pages like glittering fairies in flight, from "Noel visions" was forged "novel". Jose is inspired by the idea of a novel mind and decides on a sunset visit to say hello to sugar skulls painted in the Xmas festivities of a small village.
In the first scene, Jose encounters Twinkle a cat celestial traveler and Quetzetcolti a Toltec shaman who gifts Jose a ring of the awakening elements (self-truthing, opening, forgiving, compassing, letting be, trusting, and believing).
In self-truthing, Jose encounters Pedro, who is a skull sitting on the ground and reveals being kicked upon occasion by a hoof and boot.
In opening, Jose encounters Pepe, a guitar longing to play a different tune.
In forgiving, Jose finds Pedro at a Dia De Los Muertos offering altar having lit candles, flowers, and a picture of his Tia Luz.
In compassing, Jose is startled upon hearing barks in Spanglish "guau guau woof woof", whips a pointy claw at Daisy. The two have a hearty laugh and Jose gifts Daisy a ribboned bow.
In letting be, Jose encounters Estrella, a papal picado (banner) glistening amongst nebulae, galaxies, quasars, and pulsars! Estrella is a free spirit stuck then dancing to a whispering breeze.
In trusting, Jose finds Frida, an artisan flowery florescent ornament created with crystals and lit by ultraviolet light. Frida, who is carefully placed on a Xmas tree by a sister and brother, accepts that one day an oopsies may happen.
In believing, Popocatépetl (Popoca) and Iztaccíhuatl (Maxtli) are banners, on the sides of an arched door and frozen in eternity, believing to awake only to the trembling heart of a traversing pure love. Jose offers Popoca a rose flower and in a fluid gesture, Mixtli is gently cradling the rose.
