Against the backdrop of the French Revolution, Dickens uses the turmoil to craft one of his greatest works. The time period was one of constant uncertainty when injustice was rampant and the difference between innocence and guilt was never fully known. It is here that Dickens' courageous adventure begins.

After 18 years of wrongful imprisonment in the Bastille, Dr. Alexandre Manette reunites with his daughter Lucie. Following their reunion, they travel safely to the relative peace of England. But not long after their arrival, they are summoned to the Old bailey to testify against Frenchman Charles Darnay, who has been falsely accused of treason. Coincidentally, Darnay looks strikingly similar to one of the lawyer's clerk Sydney Carton. The resemblance saves Darnay from several perils throughout the novel.

Crafted with sheer brilliance, Dickens' novel overflows with drama, romance, and heroics with a daringly unforgettable ending.

This edition includes:

  • A biography of Charles Dickens to introduce the text.
