But not long after their arrival, they are summoned to the Old bailey to testify against Frenchman Charles Darnay, who has been falsely accused of treason. Coincidentally, Darnay looks strikingly similar to one of the lawyer's clerk Sydney Carton. The resemblance saves Darnay from several perils throughout the novel.
