A Voice in the Wilderness is a series of thought-provoking meditations based on the experiences of those who witnessed the events of the first Holy Week and Easter. Each is introduced with part of the gospel narrative of Holy Week on which the author then comments to draw out the emotions of those involved. The meditations not only explore and explain the experiences of the original witness, but also resonate with people who find contemporary life confusing. Every reflection concludes with a prayer of strength and comfort and is beautifully illustrated by a piece of photographic art on which to reflect.
The purpose of the book is to offer the comfort of knowing that God in Christ understands the human emotions of failure and abandonment, hope and despair with which people may be struggling. The meditations are an encouragement to listen for the voice of understanding and strength when all around is confusion. Although the author draws on her experience of mental health issues to inform the meditations, others going through difficult times or wrestling with questions of suffering and doubt, will also find it useful.
This book will be an invaluable resource for private or public worship at any time of the year, but especially during Lent, Holy Week and Eastertide.
