Set in 1950's Louisiana, Paperwork follows a loan shark named Mr. Festus, who is doing his absolute best to convince Ms. Linda to purchase a loan so she may keep her house.
The last story in the collection, The Slide, follows the story of two automatons, Keurig and Xim in an apocalyptic future. Traveling along the Gravel Path, they discover an old invention by mankind. Keurig persuades Xim to go down the large metal object in order to discover what "fun" is.
