Author C.A. Collins recounts the precursor to the events of September 11, 2001 that occurred on

February 26, 1993. That tragic event is all too often - forgotten. She writes:

It was a busy Friday at The Windows of the World Restaurant at the World Trade Center, New York City. Some lunch patrons were already seated and more were arriving. Wilfredo Mercado, 37, went down to B2 level to check in deliveries needed for the restauranthe never returned. John Giovanni, 45, dental products salesman was parking his car on Level B-2 before heading to a dental practicehe never arrived. Robert Kirkpatrick, 61, Senior Structural Maintenance Supervisor was only a few years from retirement was having lunch on level B-2 with his Port Authority colleagues; Bill Macko, 57, General Maintenance Supervisor and his younger colleague Stephen Knapp, 47, Chief Maintenance Supervisor. All of the men worked in the mechanical section for the Port Authority of New York. They were sitting outside the office where Monica Rodrigues Smith, 36, was checking time sheets, her last day before going on maternity leave - her unborn child a boy, was to be named Eddie. None of their friends, family and colleagues would never see any of them, ever again . . .

The Ryder rental truck that blew up at the first trade city bombing in February, 1993 was driven by Egyptian born Mahmud Abouhalima who had been a member of a radical Muslim group since his teens. Abouhalima bolted to Munich, Germany on the advice of the group's lawyer that he was likely under surveillance by Egyptian security forces.

In order to remain in Germany he hastily married a German woman. Later he divorced her and married a younger German woman. When he heard America was granting amnesty to millions of illegals with the passage of S1200 in 1986 the newlyweds bolted to New York City under the ruse of a visit visa. An immigration lawyer falsified the agricultural provisions in S1200 and the couple was able to remain in the United States. He traveled back and forth to Afghanistan, a well know haven for terrorist training yet that never sent up red flags?

Madjid al-Farooq Mosque was founded in 1976 and is the oldest and largest of the twenty-eight Mosques established in Brooklyn since the 1970s. It was here on the bulletin board in the Arabic language an ad was placed for military training on a farm near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The FBI was in fact monitoring the Pennsylvania farm and watching raveling and other military exercises. Their DC based manager pulled them off the detail on a cold January day, in spite of the protests of the field agents who wanted to follow the suspects back to their motel.

An ill fated decision from a DC desk overruling those in the field led to heartbreak.
