Adventures in Life

This is a factual account of the author¿s experiences as a young boy growing up on a farm: I had to learn how to do all the chores, when I was eight years old. My dad said, ¿Charles, I am going to teach you how to take care of the rabbits; from the time they are born until we put them in the freezer for supper.¿ We ate a lot of rabbit. We also raised cows, pigs, and chickens. I had to feed and water everything including the garden. Author Charles Noli had to learn it all! When I got older, I had bigger responsibilities. One year, at age ten, I wanted a shotgun¿a four-ten gauge. My dad told me if I would cultivate the cotton for the summer, he would buy me one. There is a lot of things on a farm, like tractors, discs, and planters, etc. If you wanted something, you really had to work for it in those days. I had a friend that lived two miles away, we had little old bicycles we would use to go fishing in the river and we would catch frogs and just have fun. My friend had a sister about fourteen years old. She would flirt with me (I was only ten). I didn¿t know what to do until one day she showed me everything. I never looked at girls the same way again, a real adventure in life. In the early 1940s, my mother would go the store for food, and she would only buy flour, sugar, salt, and pepper. Most everything we ate was farmed raised or baked by Mom. This generation would starve if they had to raise their own food and prepare it (fast food). I had a best friend named Rick he was like a brother to me called him my partner. We were in the gold mining business. We were very successful in finding gold. Forty great years of fun and adventures in life with him. I have had many adventures in my life. I tried to write about a few of them. Everybody has a book in their life experiences. They just don¿t have it written down on paper.
