Asia Booth Clarke wrote memoirs that chronicled the lives of her brothers and father, a family of actors. Married to stage comedienne John Sleeper Clarke, Asia was placed under house arrest in her Philadelphia following the April 14, 1865 assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Sleeper Clarke was noted for managing theaters in Philadelphia and Boston, together with Edwin Booth. Asia Booth grew up especially close to her brother John Wilkes. She aided his early efforts in acting and elocution. As children of Junius Brutus Booth Sr.'s second marriage, the two siblings were very close in age.
