Autism and Emotional Puberty

As if autism was not enough of a roller coaster along comes puberty. Now everything is chaos and we are left trying to figure out our life. Along with the physical changes that occur to our bodies that we will need help processing we also have emotional changes in how we understand our own feelings, thoughts, and emotions. Then we have to understand the changing emotions of others from puberty. One of the biggest mistakes is when we assume that people with autism understand what is going on with their own feelings and emotions. When we do not take the time to talk to them about puberty we are really ignoring a problem that can explode when we feel confused and disoriented from our experience with puberty. In this book Travis breaks down his thoughts and feelings that he experienced during puberty to give parents and professionals an idea of what some of the feelings and emotions are for someone who has autism as they experience puberty. This is a very complex book and will include several books in a series in which we will discuss every single feeling and emotion related to Travis' puberty experience. One of the things that left Travis feeling most confused is when girls started treating him different in middle school and he did not pick up on the social cues as to why this was going on. This is a great book for parents wanting to get a head start on preparing their child with autism for puberty and the sexuality issues that they may face during puberty.
