Introduction

We were a generation born out of the hopes and dreams

of our parents, in a time of renewed hope and prosperity.

This book is a compilation of the memories of Baby Boomer Kids,

and growing up in the 50s and 60s. There will be regional differences

and I encourage you to add your own memories.

This book is not only for us Baby Boomers, but for our now adult children,

who are curious about their parent's lives, and the generation that experienced such enormous change.

And yes, there is much, much morea lifetime's worth

During the 20th century civilization developed and expanded at a rate never before experienced in the history of the world. The fabric of our lives changed so much in such a short period of time that those growing older now see a much-changed world, so different than they experienced when they were young.

Grandparents do not see their grandchildren having the same experiences, using the same items, and playing with the same toys as they did themselves as children. Prior to the 20th century the progress of civilization grew at a much slower rate. Things experienced in BB Kids' lives are gone; they appeared, then disappeared so quickly, in a matter of just a few decades, that a pervasive nostalgia has taken hold of Baby Boomers as they age and look back on their lives.

Now is the time to chronicle and preserve this recent past, when it is so easily remembered first hand. Reminiscing plays a vital role in the life journey and is extremely satisfying for most people. Memories generally recall the best of times, and though many children, while growing up, experience sadness, hardship, pain and suffering, thinking back can be a cathartic process that allows each person to heal psychologically and emotionally. Despite the troubles experienced through our lives, reminiscing brings great pleasure by bringing back to the consciousness, the innocence of childhood and the early years of life. It frees the spirit of past hurts and, it is just plain good fun. It is as important to preserve the recent past, as the ancient, because it too 'no longer exists.'
