Southern tier New York state farm girl and budding artist Jenny Thompson ignores the love of her cherished best friend and Mennonite neighbor Jake Martin to comply with her mother's wishes to marry the richest and most popular boy in town. When the marriage ends in divorce Jenny flees to New York City with her toddler son to find success in business and the art world. Although she dates sporadically no one compares to Jake.
