Dying in a hovel on Jacob's Island in 1845, Joseph Burridge has no remembrance of the man he sees his wife embracing as he lay dying. Burridge had no remembrance, at first, as to how he came to be here. Combining myth and legend from the history of London's ancient past, the play explores Burridge's predicament as he tries to understand all that has occurred. Could Cain's murderous jealously after he slew Abel be the source of the mystery of Spring-Heeled Jack who has been terrorizing London?
