Fraser - A young ranger in Kuruk National Park is tasked to keep track of a problem bear. She takes it to heart and is soon in a struggle to keep him from being put down by the ranger service or killed by a local pest control agent. She throws herself into her work, but are there other reasons why she lives in the park?
Cody - Fresh out of training school, he's sent to police the sleepy town of Deer's Leap. He has high hopes, but is left frustrated that he's chasing a bear and old man around instead of arresting real criminals.
Bruce - The outcast of Deer's Leap. A pest control agent by day, and an illegal animal hunter by night. When Bear 16 rears his head and starts coming into town and putting people at risk, Bruce makes it his business to deal with the bear, even if that means facing jail time.
All three are brought together by Bear 16. In one summer lives will be changed and secrets outed, but will Bear 16 live or meet his end at the barrel of gun?
