30-Year-Long Mystery of "Tent Girl". In 1968 her body was found. Her identity would remain a mystery for decades.
Wilbur Riddle, a well digger, traveled along US Route 25 in the Kentucky backwoods in May 1968, collecting glass telephone pole insulators. During his search, he came across a bundled up green tarp. Riddle pushed the mass down an embankment with his foot. The tarp unraveled in the quick movement, revealing the bundle inside.
It had the shape of a body.
Riddle panicked and dashed to a gas station, where he called the sheriff to inform him of his discovery. The sheriff arrived shortly after and cut away the covering. What he discovered horrified him. The badly decomposed body of a young girl lay there, frozen in the stiff position of someone attempting to flee. She appeared to be a white adolescent with short brown hair. Her appearance was unremarkable aside from the decay.
another horrifying murder case was that of Pearl Bryan and Her Missing Head. This young woman suffered a brutal death, her head tragically lost to time.
Pearl Bryan, a Sunday school teacher in Greencastle, Indiana, left her house on January 28, 1896, to see a friend in Indianapolis, or so she said. Bryan was 22 years old and five months pregnant, unknowing to her parents, who would never see her again.
Bryan's decapitated corpse was discovered more than 150 miles away in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, less than a week later. Her head, on the other hand, was never found.
