Black Smoke

When Toronto homicide detective John Corvus witnesses a huge cloud of black smoke streaking downward through the night sky, he has no idea what he has seen. Then a youth is murdered, a young girl goes missing, and the girl's parents confess to involvement in a large-scale criminal conspiracy made possible by a new nanotechnological device. An anonymous tip alleges that a popular Catholic priest has murdered the boy and abducted the girl in a desperate bid to cover-up child abuse taking place in his church, but Corvus is skeptical. The Father is a long-time friend.

Smelling a frame, Corvus must search for the missing girl while protecting the Father from rogue cops seeking to take the law into their own hands. But then nine police colleagues die suddenly in a series of bizarre events and it seems possible that supernatural powers have become involved in the situation. If so, why? Will Corvus manage to save the Father and rescue the missing girl, or will the detective be sucked into a swirling vortex of crime, obsession, and cover-up that may reach into the House of God itself?
