Bobby Baker was a smooth operator in many areas of the political spectrum. He procured women for politicians, invested in exorbitant land and real estate deals, and often double crossed the friends who put money into the projects with him. The Bobby Baker affair unraveled beginning with a civil suit brought by a fellow South Carolinian. The offended party accused Baker of failure to hold a vending company franchise for him despite him having made regular monthly payments to retain it. The scandal with Baker at its epicenter extended to the German Rhineland, Wisconsin, and to the aerospace industry that is based in California.
