Imperial Russia, XIX century. Vasily Glyzin neglects his wife and increasingly visits his mistress the Baroness. Ilya decides to take revenge on his brother and informs reporters about the pink diamond belonging to Vasily Glyzin. The journalist publishes an article about a Russian Cossack, whom a French lady fell in love with in France in 1813 and presented him with a pink diamond as a sign of her love. This diamond allegedly belonged to the king's mistress, Marquise de Pompadour. After this article, Moscow is filled with various gossip. The townspeople want to see Vasily Glyzin and the pink diamond. Therefore, crowds of people literally besiege his home. The relationship between Vasily and his wife is finally deteriorating. A certain jeweler visits Vasily Glyzin and informs him that the diamond he possesses is called the 'Rose of Versailles'. This diamond is listed in all jewelry catalogs. Its last owner is considered to be the great-granddaughter of Louise de Lavalier, the favorite of King Louis XIV of France. And Madame Pompadour has nothing to do with this diamond.
