Boot Lake was formed by John Dawson Senior in 1946. He dammed up Black Creek to provide electricity for his nearby mills. To his surprise when the dam was finished, the lake formed a perfect boot with the dam at its toe. It was here in the family's log cabin that this hair-raising story begins. Though John Senior had now passed away, his son, John, Jr. now owned the Dawsonville Mills. John, his wife Dorothy, and their daughter, Trish, spent six months each year on the lake with their two servants and close friends.

This story begins when Trish and the family servants return to the lake house to prepare it for their summer stay. When they go into the small town nearby to buy groceries, Trish spots the handsome new guy, Ben Houston, everyone in town has been talking about who has just built a glass-front house on the lake. That evening at the local fish camp where the lake residents were having a welcoming square dance, the new guy asks Trish for a dance, makes a play for her, and invited everyone to his new home for a Bar BQ.

The day after they meet, Trish discovers a girl's body in Black Creek near the 'heel of the boot' below their home. She rushes to call in her old friend, Jessie, now head of the local State Troopers. And also phones another friend, Ted Davis, to hopefully find out more about the new guy on the lake. From this time on, the calm world of the Dawson's begins to explode, and Boot Lake becomes surrounded with secrets, the mob, the FBI, and the handsome detective, Chip Long, called in to help solve the turmoil on Boot Lake.

Be ready for some real surprises, discoveries, a love triangle, and mysteries on the once calm lake, now taken over by the mob to use to secretly smuggle in drugs and other items into the quiet, once serene area.
