Bought and Paid For

Colin and Libby have accepted a down payment from their wealthy neighbour and spending a cent of it commits them to his offer:

I sat at our kitchen counter with my hand over my mouth as I looked at our bank balance. Mine and Libby's joint account had jumped from minus a couple of hundred in overdraft to plus ninety-nine thousand and change. I rubbed my chin. "Oh boy!"

The toilet flushed up the hall. A moment later, Libby cuddled up behind and looked over my shoulder at the laptop screen. "Ooh goodie! Let's go shopping!"

I gulped and nodded stiffly. I drew a big breath. "Okay baby, let's just do it."

Libby squealed and giggled excitedly as she did a little happy dance around the kitchen. She quickly fed me my breakfast and sent a text to her boss. I called in sick, and we jumped in our old Ford Fiesta and drove directly to the new car sales district, where there was a line-up of dealerships on the way into the city.

Libby was first with a new car. I wanted to take a bit of time to work out what kind of truck I'd need for our new engineering business. Libby's criteria was surprisingly modest, just something small, zippy and sexy. In red. And she wanted to drive it out right away. We found her an ex-demo Mazda in Luscious Red. The saleswoman was busy getting the paperwork together in the next room. My heart was thumping nervous excitement. We had the account details for the funds transfer.

"So baby, last chance I guess, hey? If we do this, there's no turning back, you'll have to have sex with the guy!"

We were seated beside each other in the dealership office. Libby bit her lip, her brows raised. She nodded a little and gulped. "Last chance!" she echoed excitedly.
