This book aims to perpetuate the history of social and environmental achievements carried out by the activist organization Liga Ambiental, universities and citizens of Paraná. Efforts to prevent the construction of a sequence of large dams on the Tibagi River extended between 1984 and 2019. These moments were compiled and arranged chronologically based on information collected in technical books, scientific publications, history books, journalistic publications, legal material and testimonies from researchers and scholars.
Engineering projects in the Brazilian electricity sector have evolved with recognized competence. However, hydroelectric projects cover complex social and environmental scales, which have been relegated to the background or simply neglected throughout the history of large dams. Energy generation projects, which provided technological and economic advances for the country, were born linked to the developmental concept of the 20th century and were transformed into monetization works by powerful contractors and political groups, which distorted the purpose of democratizing supply and use of energy in the country.
