Bullying

"No, you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No, you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life"
- Simple Plan

"But sometimes, people kick you to the ground at recess because they think the shape of your eyes is funny. They lunge at you because they see a vulnerable body.
Or a different skin color.
Or a different name. Or a girl.
They think that you won't hit back; that you'll just lower your eyes and hide.
And sometimes, to protect yourself, to make it go away, you do.
But sometimes, you find yourself standing in exactly the right position, wielding exactly the right weapon to hit back."
- Marie Lu, Warcross

'You should not bully others because they might not feel loved and valued.'

'I think bullying is bad because the bully is immature since they are just hurting their own self.
They are also disrespecting the person they are bullying.
I do not think bullying is the way to get through your path.
Get through your path with kindness.'

'Bullying can have a huge effect on people's lives
I myself have experienced bullying and it's the most horrible things that happened everyday!
The victims may be hurt in ways the bully might never imagine. It is important for the victims they bully to stand up for themselves and ignore him or her'

'Bullies are not real bullies. Deep down all bullies have a kind side.
Just everyone forgets this.
Bullies just have something or someone who makes them change their way.'

The definition of bullying is the use of physical or verbal aggression that is repeated over a period and, in contrast to meanness, involves an imbalance of power.

  1. Physical bullying can require hitting, kicking, pinching, pushing, or otherwise attacking others.

  2. Verbal bullying suggest the use of words to harm others with name-calling, insults, making sexual or bigoted remarks, harsh teasing, taunting, imitating, or verbal threats.

  3. Relational bullying directs on excluding someone from a peer group, normally through verbal threats, spread of rumors, and other types of intimidation.

  4. Reactive bullying involves the bully reacting from being a former victim by picking on others.

  5. Bullying can also entail assault on a person's property, when the victim has his or her personal property taken or destroyed.

'When I was a school boy in Primary school, some of my classmates were 5-8 years older than me because they were forced to go to school (Compulsory schooling) by the newly elected government of Singapore.

Of course they were unhappy going to school and take out their frustrations by bullying any one smaller than them.

So I learned to avoid them, be a loner by myself and started to strengthen my skinny and scrawny body by climbing trees and swinging from branches in the kampong (rural village) trees where I resided.

I learned to be tough, never to give way to pain even when I am injured by a bigger stronger boy, pretended that there was no pain and keep playing my sport (soccer) as though I was not hurt.

I had arm wrestling matches with some of the bigger so-called stronger boys and beat them at arm wrestling and hand gripping matches.

Words got around that I was tougher than some of the bigger boys.

They become scared of me rather me being scared of them.

Eventually they avoid me instead of me avoiding them.

That was my way of preventing bul
