Subtropical August, the end of the rainy season. Humidity so high I felt like I was dunking my head in a swamp with each breath. The parking lot was dragonfly-drenched, the air full of flitting flashes of scarlet bodies and translucent wings. They flew in pairs, forming aerial hearts.
"Sort of humbles you, doesn't it?" Lani's fiery hair was the same hue as the dragonflies all around us.
"What does?" I asked.
"The way they mate. Humans have never done it like that before." She pointed to a pair curled around each other in a picturesque loop.
This is a steamy short story about what happens when the straight woman you're crazy about turns out to be, well, not so straight after all.
