Challenges of nation building:-

in this chapter

The biggest challenge of independent India was national unity and integrity. We will start this discussion of the history of independent India politics by mentioning these challenges. In this chapter we will see how the challenge of nation-building was successfully met in the first decade after 1947:

Challenges of the new nation:-

India became independent on the midnight of 14-15 August 1947.

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, addressed a special session of the Constituent Assembly on this night.

Famous Speech:-

This famous speech 'Long awaited meeting with the lucky bride' come on 'Tryst with Destiny' Known as.

The people of India were waiting for this moment.

Many voices were loud in our freedom struggle.

Everyone agreed on two things:-

1.The first thing is that after independence, the country will be governed through a democratic government.

  1. Secondly, the government will work for the welfare of everyone. In this governance, special care will be taken of the poor and the weak.

Three challenges of nation building:-

  1. To keep tied in the thread of unity :- The aim was to create an India in which there would be space for all the diversities of the Indian society. Followers of different languages, cultures and religions lived here, the challenge was to unite them all.

  2. To establish democracy:- Fundamental rights are guaranteed in the Constitution and every citizen is given the right to vote. India adopted representative democracy based on parliamentary rule.

  3. Development of the entire society:- It was made clear in the Constitution that everyone should be treated equally and special protection should be given to socially deprived sections and religious-cultural minority communities.

Two-nation theory:-

The most important reason for the partition of India was the "two-nation theory" which was demanded by the "Muslim League".

According to this theory, India was not a country of any one community but of both Hindu and Muslim communities and that is why the Muslim League had demanded a new nation for Muslims i.e. Pakistan.
