Adopted as a child, Rika has struggled in vain to earn her family's approval, but nothing can overcome her dirty blood, so in a desperate attempt to escape, she convinces her cold, unemotional older brother to grant her one year away from her prestigious private academies; one year in public school.
One year to start her entire life.
Once there, she meets Jason Keinishi, her blunt, sardonic World History teacher. Unlike most, he isn't the type to be impressed with her status or put up with her spoiled-brat attitude. Instead, he seems to go out of his way to aggravate her, a fact that starts between them a hatred neither one is apt to abandon. Yet despite this mutual dislike for one another, they find themselves constantly within each other's company and soon a somewhat sadistic friendship forms between them. Coming to understand each other, they realize the feelings that have sprung up since they'd originally met border on inappropriate. They continue to push the envelope however until implosion becomes inevitable, their teetering relationship finally confronted with the decisions neither of them wanted to face.
Turbulent personal lives aside, sinister events are brewing around the oblivious teacher and student. Rika still continues to avoid the calling of her neglectful, abusive mob business family, a summoning she can't forgo forever, and Jason's past is starting to bubble up into the present. Despite how he tries to hide it, his secrets are unraveling; secrets that may reveal to more than just Rika who he really is and how his mysterious identity could destroy them both.
