Ciara Princess Harris was born on October 25, 1985, in Fort Hood, Texas, to Jackie and Carlton Clay Harris. Raised as an army brat, she traveled throughout the nation as a child, living in places like Georgia, New York, Utah, California, Arizona, and Nevada. After several trips, Ciara eventually settled in the College Park, Georgia suburb of Atlanta, where she attended North Clayton High School and received her Riverdale diploma.
When Ciara was a teenager, she formed the all-girl band Hearsay with two friends. They worked together to produce demos, but as time went on, conflicts arose, and the group disintegrated. Despite this setback, Ciara's talent for music helped her get a publishing deal. As her first writing credit, she penned the song "10,000 Times" for Blu Cantrell's first album.
