The fictional stories in Clara's Connexions bear witness to some aspects of Trinidad's reality in the 21st century i.e. disruptive personal and family issues - suicide, divorce, single parenting, child neglect, aging, care-giving, infidelity, poverty; occurrence of a range of crimes - fraud, home invasions, murder, street theft, physical assault; and health issues pertaining to mental illness, alcohol abuse, and marijuana use. In working to solve these disquieting challenges, descendants of the the master/servant correlation of colonial eras apply modern wisdom and practise guile and humour cultivated from their ancestral lines. Results are mixed - tragic, positive and dubious.
