College Days

Sometimes wishes do come true.
Dallas Brandt is starting college tomorrow. A new beginning. An exciting time.

Everyone applauded as I looked at the perfectly frosted chocolate cake in front of me, it looked delicious sitting up on a silver platter, eighteen candles burning atop it.
"Make a wish!" Someone yelled out.
I thought for a second. What would be a good wish? I had it, the perfect wish.
"I wish"
"Don't say it out loud," Mom reminded me.
That's right, if you say it out loud it won't come true. I wished to have a ton of sex this year at college with a bunch of girls. I blew out the candles. Tendrils of gray smoke rose to the ceiling as the crowd around memostly my familyclapped and cheered.
After the candles were out I had to have a piece of that cake. Boy, was it good. Chocolate frosting and two thick layers of fluffy yellow cake on the inside. If any was left I was taking it home with me.
I pushed my empty plate out of the way and started accepting presents. There were about half a dozen stacked up at the end of the table. My mom told me I could pick any restaurant for my birthday, so I picked my favorite place since I was a kid, Archie's Eatatorium. I know most of you are probably rolling your eyes because I picked a chain restaurant, and I've heard people call Archie's lame and stupid, but it's not, not for me.
I like the fact that our waiter is wearing a pair of suspenders and a zany hat with no less than a dozen pieces of flare, mostly pins and stickers. I also like the fact that the food has been the exact same since I was a kid. I almost always order the same thing, fried mozzarella sticks for an appetizer (with the red dipping sauce), a cobb salad with ranch dressing, and for the entree, none other than the Arch Burger, a whopping quarter pound of beef, two kinds of melted cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and Archie's special sauce. It was delicious. Oh, and fries. I always got the fries, golden brown, not too skinny, and always hot. You can imagine, after finishing all that, plus a piece of cake, I was stuffed.
I looked around the table, everyone was smiling, having good conversation, and generally being happy. Our waitress came back and started taking away empty plates. I watched. She was pretty, probably two or three years older than me, probably in college. She had long dark brown hair with a few light brown highlights, it was all pulled back in a ponytail that I wanted to tug on. I could just imagine if my wish came true with her.
