Connie and Richard

Connie and Richard Merriton find themselves separated with one living in Mexico and the other living in New York City. Each of them has a secret or two that comes back to haunt them in this volume. Many of their hopes and dreams seem impossible now, and they are uncertain as to whether or not they will ever reunite.

Connie's parents, Roberto and Maria Bernato, welcome their daughter and granddaughter, Margarita to their home, even though they suspect marital problems are the reason rather than just a friendly visit. The town of La Fuente is as beautiful and serene as always, and it has, if anything, continued to grow more prosperous since Connie left a year earlier. But her old flame, Hector Arroya, is still living on a ranch nearby, after inheriting all of his family's vast fortune, is still unmarried and still very much in love with Connie.
